Program areas at Sea Turtle Adventures
Sea Turtle Adventures, Inc. "organization" is permitted through the Florida fish and wildlife conservation commission (fwc) to conduct activities related to Sea Turtle conservatio. Activities include monitoring Sea turtles nesting activities, responding to Sea Turtle stranding calls and conducting outreacy and educational programs. The organization monitors a threee-mile section of beach in south Florida (the southern park of ocean ridge, briny breezes, gulfstream park, and the town of gulf stream) for Sea Turtle nesting activity from march ist through october 31st. The organization usually monitors 600-700 nest each Sea Turtle nesting season. The organization also responds to Sea Turtle stranding and distress calls around palm beach county. Sick and injured turtles are transported to local rehabilitation facilities, while deceased turtles will have data collected and salvaged for research/educational purposes and/or properly disposed of according to fwc regulations. The organization also offers classroom programs through the Sea Turtle education program (s.t.e.p) to school groups, hoas, and other community organizations.
The organization also conducts a unique program "icare" for adults over eighteen years of age with special needs. The program is comprised of four main components: an adult day program (mon/wed), monthly social events, travel clubs, and wave (work and volunteer experiences). Icare helps special needs adults to build confidence, have fun, expand their social life and develop new interests through its welcoming and inclusive environment. The group meets multiple times a month at a variety of location throughout palm beach county. All meet-ups are led by trained staff amd volunteers with experience working with special needs adults. Icare's travel club offers special needs adults the opportunity to travel, gain independence, and learn about new locations and cultures. All trips are well-planned to provided an appropriate balance of fun, learning, and relaxation. Travelers participate in pre-travel sessions where they learn about travel locations, what to pack and the uniqueness of leaving home for a travel experience.
