Program areas at SCRAP Creative Reuse
Education programs:scrap's education programs offer a unique opportunity for kids pre-k through 12, and adults to learn the fundamentals of Creative Reuse and resourcefulness. Students learn in a rich and engaging program focusing sustainable behavior change. Using creativity and art techniques, students create sustainable projects from reclaimed items available in their homes or at Scrap stores. A menu of opportunities is provided for teachers and students to participate in our education programs; camp Scrap, Scrap at school, scouting outings, teacher trainings, and private workshops. These education programs reached hundreds of families this last fiscal year.
Volunteer program:each of Scrap's four locations is dependent upon volunteers to effectively operationalize our mission. The volunteer programs reflect our deep belief in the critical role volunteerism plays in the fabric of society. Volunteering at Scrap offers the opportunity for individuals and groups to engage in Scrap's mission and share their time, passion and expertise with others and support sustainability, creativity and education in their local communities. Almost 13,141 volunteer hours were logged in fy24.
Creative Reuse center (crc):scrap's Creative Reuse centers are programs that offer the opportunity for community members to participate in our mission. Scrap accepts donations of clean, reusable Creative materials (i.e. Fabric, bottle caps, paper, art supplies, craft items, yarn, notions) and make them available to everyone at a low cost. Educators, crafters, Creative entrepreneurs, families, and makers are all able to stretch their budgets by purchasing reclaimed materials at a fraction of the cost of regular retail store. In fy24, Scrap diverted 142.37 tons (284,739 lbs.) Of material from the waste stream. Scrap Creative Reuse centers are located in ann arbor, mi; baltimore, md; portland, or; and richmond, va.
