Program areas at San Antonio Sports Foundation
Youth programs - the organization is a leader in the development and implementation of quality community-based youth Sports and fitness programs. In 2018, the organization reached more than 150,000 children, the majority of whom are underserved, through four Sports and fitness programs: (1) university health system go!kids challenge(tm); (2) subway kids rock powered by San Antonio Sports; (3) San Antonio Sports i play! Afterschool program; and (4) fit family challenge, which was introduced in 2010 for the benefit of the larger San Antonio community. See schedule o for continuation.
Facilites programs - the organization also advocates for the development of quality athletic facilities for the community by hosting planning meetings with county and city officials and local school districts, as well as creating and managing a 20-year community athletic facilities plan. In 2018-19, the organization provided oversight of the construction of San Antonio school parks. The goal of the school park program is to create neighborhood parks on school property that can be enjoyed by students during the day and the neighborhood after school hours. This intiative creates attractive functional spaces and enhancements to neighborhoods.
Amateur sporting events - the organization hosts amateur athletic events to provide Sports opportunities that engage the community in athletic activities. Other 2018-19 sporting events included the rock 'n' roll San Antonio marathon and 1/2 marathon, San Antonio Sports corporate cup, San Antonio Sports all-star football game, valor games southwest, and all can ski, a program that provides water ski opportunities for physically disabled individuals.
