San Antonio for Growth on the Eastside promotes, renews, and empowers the economic and cultural vitality of San Antonio's East Side. It achieves this through an inclusive and trusted process aimed at achieving sustainable eco-growth. Serving as the collective impact coordinator for activities in the Eastside promise zone, Sage connects city agencies, non-profit organizations, and local businesses to further sustain the Eastside. Sage also supports various special events that bring the community together, such as Halloeast, an annual free Halloween celebration.

Program areas at San Antonio for Growth on the Eastside

Supporting small business: Sage assists and provides grants to small businesses for them to thrive on San Antonio's Eastside. the back office program offers business support, access to educational opportunities, resources, and technical assistance. the store front grant program helps qualified property owners with grants of up to 10,000 to improve their property's exterior and facade. Since 2010, the organization has awarded over 200 storefront grants totaling more than 1,800,000.
Housing technical assistance: the Texas homeowner assistance fund (txhaf) was a program launched by the Texas department of housing and community affairs (tdhca) to provide financial relief to homeowners struggling with housing costs due to the covid-19 pandemic. Funded by the american rescue plan act, txhaf helped homeowners with overdue mortgage payments, property taxes, homeowners insurance, homeowner association (hoa) fees, and other related costs to prevent foreclosure. In partnership with the tdhca, Sage identified 1,488,563 in financial need. Additionally, the city of San Antonio's home rehab program was a local initiative designed to help low- and moderate-income homeowners repair and improve their homes. Administered by the city's neighborhood and housing services department (nhsd), the program aims to improve housing conditions, enhance safety, and ensure homes meet basic living standards, contributing to neighborhood stabilization and quality of life improvements for residents. In partnership with nhsd, Sage assisted 165 residents.
Community engagement & cultural preservation: each year, Sage hosts halloeast, a free family-friendly community block party celebrating halloween. In addition to opportunities for trick-or-treating, halloeast is an opportunity for residents to connect with neighbors, businesses, nonprofits, government representatives, and other community resources. This event draws over 700 attendees and more than 50 vendors from the community. In addition, through its historical marker program, Sage installs historical markers throughout San Antonio's Eastside, commemorating significant events, locations, and individuals, to help residents and visitors connect with the area's history. In 2023, Sage installed 3 markers.
