Program areas at Safe / San Francisco Safe Inc

Launched in 1976 as a unique project of the San Francisco police department (sfpd), sf Safe has represented the interests of residents as an innovative, community-driven resource organization, acting as the number one community facing crime prevention initiative of the sfpd. The sf Safe team works in unison with the community engagement division of sfpd (per department of justice requirement), supports all ten sfpd district station captains, and works closely with the sfpd chief of police to drive special projects that benefit the broader community. Coordinating with relevant city departments, sf Safe also facilitates valuable partnerships with well-respected civic advocacy organizations and local constituency groups. Simply put, sf Safe helps build trust, transparency, and teamwork. Working to create stronger community connections across all neighborhoods in San Francisco, sf Safe engages, educates, and empowers San franciscans to stand up with a unified voice and participate in the overall health, vibrancy, and resiliency of their communities through important public safety initiatives.sf Safe helps prevent crime, protect citizens, and foster positive police-community relations. As the go-to civilian liaisons between sfpd and our communities, sf Safe provides residents with opportunities for constructive dialogue with our public safety leaders. In curating a calendar of community-supported events, sf Safe helps bring people together to address local issues. With an organized network of community leaders activated across San Francisco, sf Safe presents a collaborative platform for residents to work alongside one another and representatives of sfpd to build awareness around neighborhood crime prevention, promote placemaking, and create a greater sense of community. Sf Safe provides the tools necessary to keep our communities Safe. Sf Safe hosts a suite of essential public safety and prevention services, including programs and resources, offered to all residents free of charge. Sf Safe coordinates neighborhood watch programs to promote community cohesion and provide personal safety presentations with proven techniques for children, youth, adults, and seniors. Upon request, sf Safe conduct specialized home security checks for your home, apartment, or condominium, then recommend low-cost safety solutions. The sf Safe team of public safety and community engagement coordinators cover the needs of residents. For expectant parents, we organize car seat demos to protect newborns on the road. With Safe kids workshops, young people develop their emotional language and awareness. Where trust is historically lacking, we are the conduit to improved neighborhood leadership, teaching key skills walking hand-in-hand with our public housing communities. The Safe bikes registry reduces theft and increases stolen property reclamation, and through business watch, local merchants and property owners have the ability to connect with one another, learn and share best practices, and take advantage of our free security assessments to ensure that all commercial corridors in San Francisco remain Safe. Sf Safe is primarily supported by government grants from the city and county of San Francisco, accounting for approximately 72& of total support and revenue during the year ended june 30, 2022.
