Cancer advocates speak up for those who cant. Advocacy helps the cancer community navigate this often difficult landscape, and play a crucial role in creating a better future for all cancer patients. The Ruth Cheatham Foundation works to educate the community to raise support and awareness for adolescent cancer patients and survivors. Trcf advocacy efforts are focused on marketing to highlight prevention and early diagnosis for teens impacted by cancer. We also participate in a number of collaborative non-profit cohorts working to improve the cancer treatment and survivorship for teens and young adults. Trcf has a strong online forum where we address survivorship issues our scholars might face, as well as awareness and advocacy campaigns throughout the year. We typically spend 520 hrs/yr drafting the content and marketing for the advocacy efforts online, as well as 200 hrs a year on collaborative efforts with other cancer orgs supporting teen cancer survivors.
Trcf provides support programs to ensure our scholar success in College and beyond. To keep scholars on track with their education and ensure successful completion of their degree, we proactively target students that are struggling by providing free online subject specific tutoring. Trcf follows through in our holistic approach to education by partnering students together for peer-to-peer support groups, we send educational materials needed for scholars to complete their workload, and we make the transition from College to career easier with resume writing and interview workshops for all scholars. We provide educational support programs in 2022 to all 87 scholars. We ran the educational support primarily through the fall and spring semesters for a total of 180 days. We offered 4 mentoring/career readiness sessions throughout the year, and items issued in their scholar support boxes were school supplies (paper, pencils, pens, highlighters, etc)
