Program areas at Ronald Mcdonald House Charities of Southern Arizona
Ronald Mcdonald House Charities of Southern Arizona owns and operates a 27-bedroom House in tucson, Arizona that provides temporary housing for families of seriously ill children who must leave their communities to seek medical care for their children. The House serves families of children receiving treatment at banner university medical center, tucson medical center, carondelet st. joseph's hospital, and other clinics in the tucson area. In 2019, 580 families stayed at the Ronald Mcdonald House for a total of 4,276 "family nights".families of seriously ill children age 21 and under are eligible to stay at the Ronald Mcdonald House. They must be referred to the House by a social worker, nurse, doctor, or other medical professionals and be undergoing inpatient or outpatient care. There is no charge to our families to stay at the House. The House is also an approved lodging facility for families covered by Arizona's medicaid program (ahcccs).the House is operated with 11 full-time and 9 part-time staff employees. A pool of volunteers assists with the day-to-day operations by providing office assistance, light housekeeping, and simple maintenance jobs. For 2019, the Ronald Mcdonald House in tucson had approximately 194 volunteers helping to provide a safe and welcoming "home away from home" for the families. In addition, there were more than 2,880 volunteers who helped with preparing meals for the resident families and assisted at special fundraising events.in 2019, we completed plans and fundraising for our kitchen remodel.
In 2019, we launched the Ronald Mcdonald care mobile, in partnership with chiricahua community health centers, Inc. to bring dental care to children in cochise county. This is the first Ronald Mcdonald care mobile in Arizona and will serve hundreds of children each year who otherwise, would not see a dentist.
The Ronald Mcdonald family room at banner children's diamond children's medical center extends of the services Ronald Mcdonald House of Southern Arizona provides. The family room serves all pediatric in-patient families at diamond children's medical center. It is a special place within the hospital, near the neonatal intensive care unit, where families can relax and regroup while still being close to their child. During 2019, we saw 47,366 visits to the family room. Our volunteers and work-study students staff the family room, making sure that visitors feel welcomed. In 2019, we had volunteers who donated approximately 4,380 hours of their time.
