Program areas at Rockland Center for the Arts
RoCA strives to provide opportunities for all people to participate in the cultural life of our region. Achievements in 2021/2022 included: providing safe art experiences at the 5-acre Catherine Konner Sculpture Park, free & open daily; facilitating a safe, 8 week outdoor summer arts camp, (103) classes (with free studio time for adult painting & ceramic students) and (11) workshops (all with scholarship opportunities); presenting (10) free exhibits with (2) free virtual artist talks, a panel discussion on the legacy of Charles White; (2) live concerts and (3) free film screenings.
On-site events and public programs were reinstated with (9) events held in the Emerson Gallery in 2021/2022. Over 839 adults & children were served through studio classes/workshops and 330 children attended Arts Camp @ RoCA (with 16 scholarships awarded). In collaboration with the MLK Center, RoCA presented (2) free art classes serving 30 children. Over 182 artists exhibited, presented, performed or taught at RoCA. Our partnership with the Gordon Center for Black Art & Culture brought new audiences to RoCA through the Charles White: Influences exhibit and related programs for the community. Over 34,027 people attended RoCA's exhibits in 2022 which included a community open call exhibition, Unsung Heroes, at the Palisades Mall.Collaborations included: Saint Thomas Aquinas College, the Arts Council of Rockland, the Gordon Center for Black Culture and Arts, the Martin Luther King Multi Purpose Center, and the CEJJES Institute
A SCHOOL FOR THE ARTS SERVING STUDENTS OFFERING COURSES IN FINE ARTS AND APPLIED ARTS IN STUDIO, ARTS IN EDUCATION AND COMMUNITY OUTREACH WITH AREA SCHOOLS. RoCA continued its commitment to accessibility through partnering with the Gordon Center for Black Art and Culture and the CEJJES Institute to present the Charles White: Influences exhibition and free related programs including a family day @ RoCA. RoCA provided (10) free exhibition based tours and (2) free 4 session art programs in Spring Valley, NY. Our Affordable Art Bazaar provided artists with an opportunity to sell their art.
