Program areas at Rhode Island Hospital Foundation

Through the development and administration of its philanthropic activities, Rhode Island Hospital Foundation (RIHF) is able to transfer funds raised to Rhode Island Hospital (RIH) to support its mission and purposes, which in turn benefits the Rhode Island community. Most notably, RIHF provides philanthropic support to various programs at Hasbro Children's Hospital (HCH), the pediatric division of RIH. In fiscal year 2022, the Foundation transferred the following to various HCH programs and capital projects: $1,830,975 from the "Every Child, Every Day Campaign", to date a campaign that has raised almost $40.6 million since it began six years ago to modernize HCH and grow essential programs and research endeavors vital to children and their families. RIHF remitted $445,950 of endowment earnings to The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University in fiscal year 2022 in support of shared chairs in cardiothoracic surgery, orthopedics, urology, emergency medicine, and oncology.
During fiscal year 2022, RIHF made transfers of $817,455 to support research related to the investigation of the role of epigenetics in adult malignant glioma at RIH. Other significant philanthropic transfers to RIH were as follows: (1) $770,170 to provide resources to support critical components necessary to create an environment to treat and unravel mysteries of the brain and nervous system; (2) $360,000 to support renovations and expansion of cancer research lab space and classrooms on Coro's third floor; (3)$230,034 to support treatment of the poor/indigent; (4) $223,651 to be used for the general purposes within the area of RIH Oncology Clinical Research; (5) $160,000 to RIH's Next Generation of Cancer Research Scholars Program supporting BIPOC education and treatment.
