Program areas at Resources for Seniors

Care management: a program serving primarily multi-need older adults and adults with disabilities whose desire to remain in the home is impeded by their lack of ability to obtain care and support for themselves from the human service delivery system. The program targets moderately to severely impaired persons, and serves clients of all income levels. Care management services are also provided through arrangements at several elderly housing developments. Care management combines the elements of personal support for the client (often isolated by infirmity or lack or transportation) with service brokers who expedite consumers through the many services to which they are entitled. A total of 1,468 clients were served during the fiscal year.
Adult day care: the agency has provided adult day care since 1978 and currently operates four state accredited adult day care centers called total life centers. The centers are the east wake center, the cary bond park center, the garner center and the raleigh departure drive center and are all carf nationally accredited. All of the total life centers offer supervised activities and care for older adults, allowing them to remain part of the community and providing respite for families who have older adults in their homes. A professional staff, including a nurse at three of the locations, offers an enriching atmosphere and stimulating programs for participants. Some services are also purchased from other local adult day centers. 101 participants were served for a total of 19,098 days of service.
Home maintenance: skilled staff, volunteers, and contractors provide minor and major home repairs such as repairing leaks, installing locks, replacing broken windows, building ramps, installing rails on tubs and steps, weatherization and heating and air conditioning repairs and delivering fans in the summer. This service attempts to remedy conditions which are a risk to the personal health and safety of the older person. A total of 426 clients were served during the fiscal year.
Community alternatives - the community alternatives program for disabled adults (cap/da) is a program that provides an alternative to nursing home care for eligible disabled adults. Home and community based services are provided to maximize independence, or to strengthen existing informal supports. The program operates under a medicaid home and community based service waiver. A total of 331 clients were served.
In-home aide services: personal care, respite, meal preparation, and home management assistance provided for frail older adults by trained certified nursing assistants. The service enables older adults to remain in the home setting and often provides respite help for family caregivers who have full time responsibility for the care of an elderly spouse or other family member. Service components range from routine home management such as cooking, cleaning, shopping, and laundry, to more direct personal care assistance such as bathing, dressing, toileting, feeding, ambulation, and exercise. Some services are also purchased from local home care contractors. A total of 189 clients were served.
Senior centers: the object of the senior center program is to meet the social, recreational, educational, and wellness needs of older adults in order to encourage their involvement in the community, the prevention of loneliness and isolation, and to help prevent their premature institutionalization. The senior activity program supports the attainment of this overall objective by providing a variety of programs, activities, and services at locations in wake county, including the five points center for active adults (raleigh), anne gordon center for active adults (raleigh), garner center, east wake center (wendell), northern wake center (wake forest) and the cary senior center. A total of 14,490 participants were served.
Access and community education: services include information and assistance, housing and counseling, and community education and outreach. Consultation specialists answer eldercare questions and assist callers to find appropriate services in our area. Caregiver support is offered one on one, and seminars on available Resources extend throughout the county. Transportation is provided to medical appointments, congregate meal sites, and grocery stores from designated locations. The friendly visitor program matches a community volunteer with an isolated senior, and the telecare service assures that Seniors in the community get a check-in phone call for safety and conversation. 7,401 clients were served
