We also explicitly align with the components team justice stated as needing in sedgwick county as we: (1) scale program dosage to risk level: (2) use evidence-based programs and methods; (3) emphasize family engagement; (4) deliver services in a culturally competent manner by culturally competent providers; and (5) show consideration of the positive Youth development model including identifying an opportunity to have Youth engage in learning by doing, forming attachments and belonging.
Scholarships: the Kansas tax credit for low-income students program provides educational scholarships to eligible students from low-income families, enabling them to attend accredited private schools. Under this program, eligible taxpayers can contribute to an approved scholarship granting organization (sgo) and receive a tax credit of 70% of their contribution. These contributions are used to fund scholarships for students whose families meet income eligibility guidelines, as defined by the program. As an approved sgo, Prime Fit Youth Foundation facilitated scholarships to support educational opportunities for qualifying students during the tax year. Through generous contributions from donors, the organization awarded $15,003 in scholarships to students attending a qualified school. These scholarships provided essential financial assistance, ensuring that students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds had access to high-quality education and expanded learning opportunities.
Prevention: our specific program, partnership assuring student success (pass) is an evidence-based, preventative, intentional program serving children with risk factors that are predictive of school failure, social-emotional-mental health challenges, and/or risk of involvement in the juvenile justice system. The program addresses the need for bolstered mental emotional support and academic support within classrooms serving Youth at risk for involvement in the juvenile justice system and their families in sedgwick county by providing layers of support to the Youth, families, and teachers through a multi-layered system of support based on each youth/family's needs. Our program is based on a tiered prevention approach, with intensity of services varying based on individual mentee/family need. Research clearly shows that positive changes related to student behavior and performance stem from positive relationships (e.g., sethi & scales, 2020). Pass is built on the Foundation of connection and relationship. Our program spans an academic year, and if needed, into the summer. Our prevention team members include: mentor, academic support person, family liaison, and mental health support person.
