Program areas at Preservation Oklahoma
Preserving, presenting, and progessing the Henry & Anna Overholser Manion in Oklahoma City (OK), staff and volunteers work year-round to bring this historic home and museum to life with guided tours, special events, and unique limited-engagement exhibits. The museum regularly welcomes more than 5,000 guests each year for guided tours, serves as a backdrop for countless private events, and reamins camera ready for production companies. For over 120 years, the Overholser Mansion has stood proudly on the Oklahoma plains. It stands as a reflection of Oklahoma Citys beginnings and also represents the hard work of preservationists who sought to preserve its legacy. Without the dedication, forethought, and tenacity of these individuals, this piece of Oklahoma history could have been lost forever. In that vein, this structure represents what Preservation Oklahoma hopes to achieve statewide the protection and preservation of these landmarks of of Oklahomas past. Believing communities are enriched when we connect history to our present and future, we remain Oklahomas only private, non-profit organization dedicated to promoting, supporting, and coordinating historic preservation throughout our state. From monthly presentations at History & Hops and online learning with Window Workshop to partnering with the National Trust for Historic Preservation on This Place Matters, our educational events are reaching more people than every before. Preservation Oklahoma NEWS, the newsletter of Oklahomas historic preservation community, is published quarterly. With editorial content provided by the State Historic Preservation Office (a division of the Oklahoma Historical Society), the newsletter contains articles on Oklahomas historic sites and architecture; serves as a record of sites added to the National Register of Historic Places; contains an extensive list of workshops, symposiums, and educational series; and informs readers of grant and funding opportunities for preservation projects. The newsletter is regularly distributed to over 5,000 subscribers, and it is viewable online at www.preservationok.org.
