Program areas at Portuguese Organization for Social Services and Opportunities
Senior nutrition Services provided nearly 55,000 home-cooked meals during the year through the daily lunch program and home delivered meals. On-site meals were replaced with take-out meals and additional home deliveries during the pandemic. As a distribution center for second harvest food bank, nearly 350 families and low-income seniors received food subsidies through the weekly usda commodities and semi-monthly brown bag programs.
Health support and immigrant integration Services supported more than 2,000 individuals and families. Services include information and referral; case management; transportation and translation to help at-risk seniors access and effectively utilize health and other resources; assistance in applying for benefits; Social and recreational activities; esl, citizenship, driver's license and Portuguese language classes; immigration Services; and legal Services. A physical activity class, health education workshops, and preventive tests are also provided.
