The leading professional theater in northern new england, Portland Stage is committed to creating great art, passionate about using the theater to educate, and dedicated to enriching the community. Over the course of a season, Portland Stage creates over 250 live performances and welcomes over 40,000 audience members. Our education programs reach over 8,400 students and 340 teachers across the state of Maine, bringing dynamic arts education that supports literacy, social-emotional skills, and self-expression methods to young learners. Our handcrafted productions are accompanied by talkbacks, literature, q&a sessions, and partnerships with local special interest groups, all of which help us amplify a diversity of voices and build relationships with and amongst our community. Our 51st season will present one summer, one winter, and six mainstage productions of the highest quality, ranging from well-known classics to world premieres of locally written and inspired works that deal with issues especially relevant to those from all parts of Maine. Having just finished our making an entrance capital campaign, a $6 million project that allowed us to renovate our space and add to our endowment, Portland Stage is dedicated this season to use our welcoming, accessible space and varied and far-reaching programming to invite every member of our community into the theater and ensure them that the theatrical arts exist to serve and unite us all.
