Program areas at Pittsburgh Council for Intern Visitors
In its 2021/2022 fiscal year, the Pittsburgh Council for International Visitors dba GlobalPittsburgh was able to successfully implement programs virtually for exchange participants sponsored by the U.S. State Department and pivot back to in-person exchanges. During this time period, the organization designed and implemented 19 virtual programs for a total of 153 participants in the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) or a Professional Fellows Program. GlobalPittsburgh arranged 9 in-person exchanges for 94 participants in the IVLP starting on March 31, 2022. Additionally, the organization arranged an in-person exchange for a group of 11 security experts from the United Kingdom and launched homestays with local families for 22 Japanese students from Yasuda University participating in an exchange with the English Language Institute at the University of Pittsburgh. Nearly two hundred community members met with their counterparts during the fiscal year, both virtually and in -person. The two members of GlobalPittsburghs staff were assisted in arranging programming and activities by two volunteers, three interns, and one CORO Fellow. The organization presented seven awards to community members at its May 7, 2022, Immigrant Entrepreneur and Community Celebration held at the Pittsburgh Shrine Center Picnic Pavillion. The organization resumed its in-person networking event, First Thursdays as of February 2022, and slowly grew attendance from month to month as community members began feeling more comfortable attending events.
