In addition to financial contributions, unique and memorable Pirates experiences and programming were provided throughout the year to local veterans and active-duty service men and women and their families and those who have given the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms including an on-field baseball/softball clinic at pnc park.
Youth baseball and softball. Pirates Charities works to grow the games of baseball and softball by hosting skills and coaching clinics, donation equipment to a variety of local baseball and softball programs, and improving playing fields through the fields for kids matching grant program. Fields for kids provides financial support to improve youth baseball and/or softball facilities via matching grants to nonprofit organizations and local government units that operate baseball and/or softball programs. In addition, Pirates Charities supports the pittsburgh rbi (reviving baseball in inner cities) program, which includes more than 1,500 area youth in communities throughout the greater pittsburgh region. Support is also provided to area miracle league organizations who provide youth and adult athletes with unique abilities the opportunity to play the sport of baseball on adaptive playing surfaces, accessible for wheelchairs, walkers and other adaptive equipment. Finally, unique and memorable experiences to engage with Pirates players, coaches and mascots were provided throughout the year to local youth athletes.
Other - Pirates Charities provided a response to specific community needs during 2022. These needs included addressing the youth transportation crisis and supporting efforts surrounding ukrainian refugees.
