RURAL HEALTHCARE INITIATIVE - GOLDEN JOURNEYS - The Golden Journeys Program is a short-term project that ‘commenced in Apni 2018 and ended in November, 2018 Expenses listed detail funds expended up through June 2018 The majorfocus ‘of the Golden Joumeys program was to engage and recruit low-income, older women living in rural, economically depressed target area ‘to address healthcare issues by incorporating productive life style changes aimed at achieving a better quality of life Fifteen women were ‘selected to participate in the program activities with a focus on goals and objectives in fitness, nutntional gardening, fresh foods access ‘financial literacy, and cultural arts empowerment All participants were pre-assessed to best determine the individual and group needs Fitness activities - walking, jumping and running were held three days a week at outdoor venues Workshop classes were held twicea ‘twice a month covenng vanous components of the HEAL - Health Eating Active Living components Health care providers assisted ‘with information and referrals Gains and/or losses were recorded relating to chronic diseases and improvements thereto Effective linkages, productive collaborations, and volunteer teams were marshalled to assist im making this program a success
WOW WOMEN OF WARREN This program ts interrelated to the overall goals and objectives of the Rural Health Care Initiative witha focus workforce development in substantial career clusters to include healthcare & related sciences, education, and information ‘technology Workshop classes were held in the target area county providing assistance to hard to serve, low income individuals lacking ‘qualifications to enter and maintain employment in the workplace Ten participants were served and were provided pre and post ‘assessment counseling and motivation sessions at open ended workshops Participant charactenstics include single parents, high ‘students, dislocated workers, and long-term unemployed Three workshops were held dunng the program year and five one-on-one ‘counseling sessions were held Of the ten participants seventy-five percent completed programs goals and objectives, one small ‘business was developed and incorporated, and first generation college students were able to gain a stronger footing indeveloping ‘realistic and sustainable career pats
Community Gardens - The Green Duke Garden Project This project included ways & means of providing fresh foods access through ‘collaboration with focal minonty farmers for information and delivery channels to low-income families with an emphasis for service ‘to senior residents of the economically depressed rural area Joint venues were held with garden project farmers and community circle ‘workers and volunteers Approximately 15 families and individuals benefitted from the information workshops and greens vegetables ‘disinbuted dunng harvest seasons Five workshops were heid dunng the report period whereby persons received and benefitted ‘from interaction with local farmers, gained information on area growing seasons, food access support, and greater knowledge onthe benefits of healthy eating
