Program areas at Pick Up Performance
In the FY22 programming year the Company began to return to live performances post COVID. Online public programming continued as well. A new film premiered directed, written, and choreographed by David commissioned by PEAK Performances screening online on PEAK PLUS. Titled The New Adventures of Old David, What Happened 1978-2021). His film last year continues to stream online The Philadelphia Fringe The Philadelphia Matter 1972/2020 and was selected by The New York Times critics as one of The Best in Dance of last year. David Gordon passed away unexpectedly on January 29, 2029. The new work he had in rehearsal did not move forward. There were public screenings of his last 2 works in April 2022 at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts Lincoln Center in the Bruno Walter Auditorium.The Pick Up Performance Co. continued working on his multi-year and faceted permanent archive for the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts Project. The Co. updated and edited his online archive site web site. Archiveography. After 2 years of community research with artists, activists, and community leaders, Ain Gordon premiered his new play These Do Not Easily Scatter. It was commissioned by the William Way LGBT Community Center in Philadelphia as part of the Remembrance Project an alternative memorial to Philadelphians and the HIV/AIDS crisis. There were performances at the William Way LGBT Community Center Philadelphia in May 2022 and at the Baryshnikov Arts Center in New York City in June 2022.Ain Gordon's work-in-development Relics and their Humans had week long workshop residencies at: Krannert Center for the Performing Arts at the University of Illinois; Boston University; and the Abrons Arts Center New York City. This play focuses on the personal story of his collaborator composer Josh Quillens family after his father was diagnosed with ALS.
