Philadelphia Theatre Company (ptc) re-opened for live performance in the 2021-22 season, starting with the world premiere of the garbologists by lindsay joelle. This unique and charming comedy about two nyc sanitation workers honored the essential workers who had kept our cities functioning during the darkest days of the covid-19 pandemic, and ptc's community engagement efforts included hosting sanitation workers and their families at the Theatre for a free performance. The second production was tarell alvin mccraney's choir boy, which tells the story of pharus young, a young, gay black teenager at an all-boys boarding school. This touching story was directed by award-winning director and choreographer jeffrey l. page, who currently serves as ptc's resident artist. The season closed with the world premiere of madeline sayet's where we belong. Presented in partnership with woolly mammoth Theatre Company, where we belong invited audiences to follow sayet, a mohegan theatre-maker, on her journey to england to pursue a phd in shakespeare. Ptc also re-opened its doors in fall of 2021 to its community partners, hosting more than 21 different cultural organizations for over 100 of their public performances at the suzanne roberts Theatre.
