Presbyterian medical center of the university of Pennsylvania health system ("presbyterian hospitalthe "hospital") is a 331-bed academic medical center, which is part of the university of Pennsylvania health system ("uphs"), d/b/a penn presbyterian medical center (ppmc). Ppmc's specialties include anesthesia, dermatology, emergency medicine, medical imaging, medicine, neurology, gynecology, ophthalmology, surgery, orthopedic surgery and cardiology. The hospital's mission has been to provide the highest level of health care for all members of the community, regardless of their ability to pay. The hospital subsidizes the cost of treating patients who are uninsured and unable to pay or who are on government assistance where reimbursement falls below the cost of care provided. Ppmc accepts patients in serious need of professional medical care, independent of their financial status.
