Affordable Housing Rental Program - The affordable housing programs provide housing to qualified low-income households, including families, seniors, farmworkers, and other special needs groups. PSHHC owns 683 affordable rental units in three counties, providing affordable housing to over 2,005 low-income residents, 19 veteran residents and their families and 23 previously homeless residents in San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and Ventura Counties. PSHHC believes the affordable housing units provides economic and educational opportunities to the low-income residents, leading to self-sufficiency and improving local communities.

During the current year, PSHHC completed construction on 10 affordable self-help homes in San Miguel, CA and continued construction on an additional 29 affordable self-help homes in San Miguel, CA. PSHHC continued site preparation and entitlements on affordable self-help lots in King City, CA and Los Osos, CA. Additionally, rehabilitation efforts were completed on 83 affordable rental units in Goleta, CA, a 30 unit multifamily affordable housing project in Templeton, CA and a 34 unit multifamily farmworker affordable housing project in Santa Maria, CA. PSHHC began construction efforts for a 38 unit multifamily affordable farmworker rental project in Guadalupe, CA and a 40 unit senior affordable rental project in Santa Maria, CA. In addition to the expenditures shown, additional costs of 1,934,569 were capitalized as construction costs for affordable rental housing and self-help ownership projects.

Affordable Housing, Tenant Assistance, Rental Services, Financial Literacy and Youth Programs - The resident services and resident education programs provide for low-income seniors and families, counseling and after school tutoring program, health screenings, ESL classes, financial literacy programs, homeownership counseling, foreclosure counseling, and emergency financial assistance. These programs are designed to help low-income persons remain housed in safe and affordable housing, and to provide educational and career training opportunities. PSHHCs youth education program has 365 participants at the early childhood education level, while there are 166 participants in the college club program that awarded 8 scholarships for participants attending colleges. In addition, PSHHC provided financial literacy to 143 households and an additional 98 residents participated in group financial literacy functions.
