Description
Home By Hand is a nonprofit organization that develops affordable housing and revitalizes communities in New Orleans. The organization achieves this by redeveloping vacant and abandoned properties as self-help housing to create neighborhoods of opportunity. In 2016, it became fully operational and launched its first affordable housing development program, where low and moderate-income homebuyers participate in a sweat-equity program by performing construction under the guidance of experienced builders.

Program areas at Peoples Housing

Peoples Housing+ was created to address new orleans widening racial wealth gap and the crisis of affordable Housing and inequitable economic opportunity that prevents an increasing number of black families from living in affordable and safe Housing, meeting their basic needs, and building generational wealth. Ph+ was established in 2022 to provide greater scale and impact with an unabashed focus on advancing racial equity in community development through the strategic merger of three new orleans-based community development organizations: the crescent city community land trust, home by hand, and tulane canal neighborhood development corporation.
