Program areas at Pentangle Council on the Arts
Pentangle Arts, founded in 1974 is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing high quality, affordable Arts programming for area residents and visitors alike. It presents movies, theater, youth enrichment and concerts throughout the year. Pentangle inspires the community with performances by world class artists, from around the corner and around the world. Recent theatrical productions have included fiddler on the roof, cats, and cabaret (in collaboration with artistree) the wizard of oz, the rocky horror show, and hair. Events and performances are attended by as many as 5,000 residents, and up to 7,000+ visitors annually. Pentangle is an integral partner in community-wide cultural events such as woodstock's wassail weekend and the Vermont symphony orchestra concerts in summer festival tour
Youth in Arts - Pentangle's Arts in education program, one of the oldest in Vermont, enriches the lives of thousands of students of all ages through performances, artist residencies, camps and after school programs.
Town hall theatre - Pentangle manages the historic woodstock town hall theatre, where it screens first run movies on the largest screen and best sound system in the region. In addition to feature films, Pentangle screens topical and historic documentaries and regional film debuts.
In 2020 Pentangle Council on the Arts partnered with the town of woodstock, Vermont to begin raising funds for the woodstock town hall rejuvenation project (the campaign to save town hall) , as the town hall includes both the theater and town offices. Both Pentangle and the town were collecting donations for the campaign to save town hall. Donations to Pentangle, directed to the campaign to save town hall, were deposited in Pentangle's designated campaign account, then transferred to the town of woodstock's dedicated campaign account. In november 2021 the leadership team directing the campaign to save town hall was disbanded at the request of the town select board and all fundraising was suspended. In december 2021 the campaign was abandoned and a new committee was formed by the town to review work completed up to that point.
