Program areas at Peninsula School of Art
Through our education programs, adults, teens, children and families, novice to advanced - from around the corner, and around the country, explore new ideas, acquire new skills and techniques, and build confidence in the visual arts. Workshops are offered in all two- and three-dimensional media including: painting, drawing, printmaking, mixed media, watercolor, ceramics, metal arts, sculpture, digital arts, and photography, as well as professional development for emerging and mid-career artists. In 2022, we offered 132 workshops and enrolled over 520 adult students in Art education workshops. Through the studios for young artists program, we offered 42 workshops and enrolled 270 children and teens ages 4 to 17.
Designed for artists of all career stages, the artists-in-residence program is an immersive studio experience awarded to six individuals per year. The program prioritizes time and space for its residents to engage fully in their creative practice creating uninterrupted opportunities to experiment and pursue new projects and ideas. Residents receive: a semi-private workspace, access to our printmaking, digital, metals, and ceramics studios, and equipment, a studio visit with a visiting critic, housing for the six-week session, and opportunities to engage with the public about their work and process in an environment that encourages contemplation, experimentation, and exchange of ideas, this program is invested in new modes of thinking and working in visual Art.
Peninsula School of Art's public programs provide accessible Art experiences and free exhibitions to persons of all ages and socio-economic backgrounds, from School age children, to aspiring artists, families and under-served communities. These programs are offered to local residents and visitors alike and are designed to encourage long-term participation in visual arts. In 2022, we served 2,000 children, families, and adults through free public education programs, such as School visits, family Art days, gallery programs and guided tours: 5,000 visitors through our free guenzel gallery exhibitions, and 10,000 area visitors through free or low-cost public events such as the door county plein air festival.
