Program areas at Pathways Shelter for the Homeless
Emergency Shelter: Pathways provides emergency Shelter to individuals and families experiencing homelessness within a 60-mile radius of yankton. When a person is provided emergency Shelter they are also given food, hygiene products, and other necessities free of charge. the Shelter provides a warm and safe place to sleep while providing resources to help people get back on their feet. Case management: the case manager provides direct services to all Pathways clients who are in-shelter. This includes the creation of goals and working to complete those goals, connecting with local resources to help them complete their goals, providing transportation when necessary, and following up to prevent clients from "falling through the cracks".
Donation center: the organization accepts donations of household goods from community members. When those they serve need items for their new home, they can access items from the donation center after volunteering five hours. Staff will pick-up donated items and move the items to the recepients new homes.
Emergency solutions: rent and deposit assistance can be provided to those that are facing homelessness, or may face homelessness in the near future. the deposit assistance is to acquire Shelter and to provide a deposit for utilities. This program can also assist people with past utility bills that will need to be paid before getting utilities in a new place. the funding for this program comes from the emergency solutions grant (esg).
Youth homelessness demonstration project: this project involves all youth ages 18-24. the organization operates a youth transitional living home and works with households in this age group living in apartments in the community.
