Program areas at PASGR
The Research programme facilitates knowledge production and evidence uptake for policy relevant Social and Governance Research in africa through collaborations with researchers based in their home institutions. The programme supports Research on aspects of Governance (such as accountability, service delivery, voice) to influence the design and implementation of African Social policy. The programme provides high quality policy relevant Research to varied audiences; integrates policy actors into the different phases of the Governance Research process and institutionalises research-policy communities to facilitate uptake of Research evidence in study countries.
The higher education program works with African universities to strengthen the provision of graduate-level education by enriching the teaching and practice of Social science Research for public policy in africa. In 2022, pasgr continued to work with its partner universities to deliver the collaborative master of Research and public policy (mrpp) and the collaborative doctor of philosophy (phd) in public policy. Despite the pandemic, the doctoral program enrolled 54 students in the three African pioneer universities thus meeting the need for quality doctoral programmes in Social sciences and humanities in africa. By 2022, the pedagogical leadership in africa (pedal) project had trained and supported more academicians and researchers in 12 universities to transition to online and blended modes in programme delivery thus equpping them with competencies for pedagogical practice and leadership, supporting Social science programmes using pedal pedagogy.
The professional development and training (pdt) programme fosters individual and institutional Research capacity and the utilisation of Research. The pdt programme supports the Research and higher education programmes by providing a range of capacity building activities designed for different audiences. The initiative has developed a multi-method Research course (mmrc) which is a high-level professional development course that targets two main constituencies, both seeking to broaden their understanding of a range of conceptual and methodological approaches to their Research and teaching work. Pdt works with partners to: design and deliver high quality, experiential professional development that builds policy actors and researchers' skills and competencies; deepen delivery partners' institutional impact and reach.
