Program areas at Overflowing Hands Belarussian Outreach

Belarussian Outreach - summer program to host Belarussian children in the u.s. Belarussian children from impoverished families come to the u.s. for 6 weeks to rest and recover from the effects of living in areas contaminated by radiation from the 1986 chernobyl nuclear disaster. Belarussian children are hosted by families living in the u.s. In summer 2019, 44 belarussians were hosted by 32 families in the raleigh nc area. In the baltimore md area, 3 belarussians were hosted by 3 families and in the boston ma area, 5 belarussians were hosted by 4 families. A total of 52 belarussians were hosted by 40 families in the u.s. local doctors and dentists serve the children. Local volunteers, churches and businesses provide activities.
Building hope centers and playgrounds - Overflowing Hands partners with international cooperating ministries (icm.org) by providing funding for construction of hope center buildings. "hope centers" are transforming communities and the children they serve. A hope center can be used as a community center, a feeding center, a youth center for after-school activities, a foster home and a church. Kids living in third-world countries go to hope centers to be safe, to play, to study and learn, to be encouraged and to receive hot meals. The four hope centers funded in 2019 are located in nicaragua. In 2019, a new project was started in nicaragua to help encourage young children to play and socialize. Partnering with kids around the world, Overflowing Hands built our first playground in san benito agricola, a remote community near managua. Refurbished playground equipment is shipped to nicaragua from the u.s. and local teams are trained to assemble the playground equipment.
Supporting children in the u.s. - Overflowing Hands provides resources to non-profit organizations supporting poor and impoverished children. Programs are funded that provide basic daily needs to children, including food, clothing, health and medical services, protection from abuse and neglect, access to organized sports, training, youth development and activities that promote healthy lifestyles and mental wellness. More than 4,000 children are supported with these gifts to local organizations. Many Overflowing Hands donors and supporters volunteer at these local organizations.
