Orpa annual conference: back in person for the first time in three years, the annual conference enjoyed a record-breaking year of attendance and for the first time resulted in cutting off registration due to limited space. Over three days Park and Recreation professionals from cities, counties, state and special districts enjoyed 11 breakout sessions offering 44 different classroom presentations and 5 field sessions around central Oregon.
Orpa legislative activities: orpa monitored state legislation related to Park and Recreation policy, funding, and regulations. The organization conducted limited grassroots advocacy activities.
Orpa educational programing: after state mask and physical distancing mandates lifted in early spring, we returned to in-person program as demanded by the membership. The year concluded with seven (7) 1-day workshops, two (2) certification classes, and 19 webinars serving a total of 1,126 members.
Leadership academy: this was the inaugural year of the orpa leadership academy developed in tandem with portland state university. We offered a 16 student cohort a 6-month program focused on 5 core competencies as defined by leaders in parks and Recreation around the state. Program tuition covered educational programs delivered by the psu center of executive and professional education (non-credit). The program also included a capstone project and guided mentorship program.
