Program areas at Oolite Arts

Residency:thirteen visual artists per year are awarded free work studios at 924 lincoln road, and benefit from exhibition and teaching opportunities, open studio events, and studio visits with curators. Miami-based artists are selected for travel residency opportunities at anderson ranch in snowmass village, Colorado, the atlantic Center for the Arts in new smyrna beach, Florida, mass moca in north adams, Massachusetts, and artpace san antonio in Texas. The cinematic Arts residency awards two South Florida filmmakers per year $50,000 in funding to create a micro-budget narrative film. One printmaking resident receives access to a fully-equipped printmaking room, as well as teaching and exhibition opportunities.
Exhibition and public programs:exhibitions and programs are organized by Oolite staff and visiting curators. Oolite presents four curated exhibitions per year at its 924 lincoln road space, which feature engaging new work by resident artists as well as local and nationally recognized artists. Eight off-site exhibitions per year are organized at two walgreens storefronts, where artists create installations that are visible 24/7, and seen by 65,000 passersby per year. Plus, two large-scale installations at mount sinai surgical Center's lobby prepare artists for public Art commissions. The talks series brings curators from important national institutions to miami for public lectures and studio visits with local artists, in collaboration with locust projects. Art films, a series of screenings followed by a q&a with the film's subject, actors, directors, or producers is presented in partnership with o cinema. Skills (7/year) professional development workshops provide artists and filmmakers with the tools to advance their careers.
Education and community engagement:a total of 400 in-person and virtual Art classes and workshops for youth and adults are taught by 10 local artists. The printshop provides a fully-furnished printmaking studio with access to a charles brand etching press, brayers, general tools, cleaners, drying rack, silkscreen darkroom, flat file storage, and more.since 2018, the ellies awards has provided $2.5 million in funds to 200+ miami visual artists to produce new work. In addition, one artist receives a career achievement award including a solo exhibition at the bass museum of Art and one artist working towards equity and inclusion through their Art practice will receive the social justice award. Oolite's youth programming includes video Art club, which provides students with the opportunity to work with professional artists and learn new skills that will prepare them for a possible career in the Arts.
