The knight foundation funded a grant to provide public art on the boyd island sanctuary. Issued by the central carolina community foundation, and in partnership with the susan f boyd foundation, the city of Columbia, and the river alliance. One Columbia oversaw the design and installation of bronze sculptures and native plants and animals. Artist renee bemis was commissioned to create bronze sculptures of native plants and animals to add to the beauty of the preserve and provide a public art for Columbia residents and visitors along the river.
The bethel cultural center technical theater crew project ( the tech crew project) directly challenged the inequitable barriers to access the stagecraft trades. This project was funded through a connected communities grant from the central carolina community fund and grant from the south carolina Arts commission. Participants in the tech crew project acquired skills necessary for successful employment in theatre and performance venues through participation a series of technical theatre training workshops and apprenticeship experiences. This was year One of a three year pilot program. The program was a huge success in providing access and equitable outcomes. The participants walked away with employable skills and a portfolio to present to potential employers for the future.
In collaboration wit the sc Arts commission (scac) One Columbia administered a statewide program-the artist entrepreneur incubator series initiative, the aei, focusing on strengthening Arts business across the state of south carolina. The series was established to help artists monetize their craft. The weekly series was led by paul d smith ceo, best carolina llc and assistant professor of business administration. The online series engaged participants in the following work sessions: bank on your success, the art of cash flow, skills that pay the bills and standing out from the crowd. In addition to the group weekly meetings each participant had the opportunity to participate in individual consultations to clarify and receive One on One attention for areas of specific growth. Each participant was also provided a stipend for attending all sessions as well as be required to complete a survey. These surveys allowed One Columbia and scac to capture data about the effectiveness of course to improve our offerings going forward.
