Program areas at Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors of Iowa
Continuing education - with the state license requirement that plumbers and mechanical Contractors obtain continuing education (ce) hours during the three-year licensing cycle, we have expanded our continuing education offerings. Classes are offered to both members as well as non-members. Phcc's continuing education sessions fulfill the needs of licensees by offering state-approved ce sessions. We offer multiple tracks for attendees to choose from to fulfill their individual licensing needs and we offer multiple sessions in various cities across the state. As we begin developing new course opportunities, we anticipate continued support and attendance.
Conferences/meetings - phcc's annual conference is geared toward networking, best practices for maintaining a successful business, and keeping Contractors up to date with industry trends and technology. Each year's conference brings an exciting line up of speakers with relevant topics that relate to the current state of the industry. The annual conference is a good opportunity for Contractors to build relationships and share knowledge about their field.

Apprenticeship program - phcc operates a 4-year department of labor registered apprenticeship program for plumbing technicians and a 4-year department of labor registered apprenticeship program for heating/cooling technicians. Our apprenticeship program is recognized and certified by the united states department of labor/bureau of apprenticeship training and by license and code authorities that utilize the idol/bat standards. Students participating in a department of labor apprenticeship program must obtain 144 classroom hours and 2,000 on-the-job learning hours per year. At the successful completion of the apprenticeship program, students become skilled, certified journey-level workers and receive a nationally recognized certificate. They are also eligible to take the journeyperson test in Iowa to obtain their state license. A standing committee of phcc contractor members oversees the operation of our registered apprenticeship program.
