Program areas at Northside Residents Redevelopment Council
2023 was a year of steady growth for NRRC, creating a more engaged community with more opportunities to improve the quality of life for residents in the NRRC Zone. This growth is responsible for NRRC's Community Safety Specialists becoming the first class ever to earn Union journeyman status for their work, NRRC providing over $200,000 in home loans and grants to Willard Hay and Near North residents, employing 9 NRRC youth to increase their knowledge of sustainable living while expanding our vegetable gardens, and increased connection to community elders through direct outreach at Rainbow Terrace and Lyndale Manor, a monthly senior newsletter, and hosting senior luncheons. Our Meet and Greets with a county commissioner and school board member, our National Night Out Celebration, and Puppet Show from Open Eye Theater brought more residents together and gave them an opportunity to learn more about our Demonstration Site for Healthy Urban Living. Finally, our Ward 5 Candidate Forum in partnership with the League of Women Voters, Harrison Park and Heritage Neighborhood Association, connected residents from throughout North Minneapolis extending civic engagement and access to Ward 5 city council candidates. We are proud of these accomplishments and look forward to utilizing this foundation in 2024.
As a neighborhood organization, NRRC provides a vehicle for Willard Hay and Near North residents to improve their quality of life and address difficult issues facing the community.
