Program areas at Newton YMCA
Child care programs: we provide year round, fully state licensed day care for children 6 weeks to 5 years of age, before and after school programs and a summer program for children 5 years to 12 years of age. Our developmentally-based curriculum is bias-free and focuses on developing the whole child by providing activities to help meet all needs. We encourage exploration and growth in a well-equipped environment that is stimulating, safe, consistent and nurturing and strives to develop habits of observation, questioning and listening and building an awareness of the child's own feelings as well as others around them. We encourage children to have an open mind that prepares them to utilizes their intellectual and creative abilities for now and later in life. Free drop-in is offered at certain hours while parents are in the building, engages in ymca activities.
Membership: open to all, and led by qualified and experienced directors, membership activities fall into four basic categories: health and fitness, aquatics, youth and adult sports, and arts and crafts. Many take place in a state-of-the-art fitness center and cardio theater and are free to members but available to non-members at a nominal fee. Scholarships are available to those in the community unable to purchase memberships on their own. Health benefits and worthwhile leisure activities are of primary importance to the community. There are racquetball and handball courts, weight rooms, youth game room, indoor walking-jogging track, kids family gym, two gyms, and spinning bicycles. The ymca has the only area large indoor pool and shares the facility with the high school. There are gymnastics and dance programs. Youth in aquatic and sports programs compete with other ymcas. All these improve physical skills, enhance self concept. Build leadership skills, help members get along with others, and lead healthier, happier lives.
