Research and policy -ny4p conducts research and develops tangible recommendations around its findings related to park and open space development, access, management, equity, and sustainability. Sample research, activities and toolkit reports include research in connection with an updated community district open space profile series, research conducted in partnership with a peer organization on the impact of development on open space and light, and issue-based research on a variety of topics.
Daffodil project - the daffodil project is the largest volunteer planting initiative in the city's history. Over nine million free daffodil bulbs have been distributed by ny4p since 2001 and planted in public Parks and open spaces citywide.
Community outreach and advocacy -ny4p's community outreach seeks to build and strengthen a grassroots network that can work on its own and with ny4p to advocate on Parks budgeting and other park and open space policy issues. Ny4p led and continued to build a city-wide coalition of park stakeholders that advocated for strategic increases and maintenance of prior budget gains in the New york city Parks agency budget for the following fiscal year. Ny4p also provides a variety of resources to educate and empower local advocates. Ny4p uses its research findings as a foundation for advocacy to promote adequate and equitable distribution of resources throughout the city's park system, and transparency and public participation in policy and budget decisions around Parks and open space issues.
Public information and communication - ny4p works to inform and engage New Yorkers and key stakeholders about our research findings and advocacy positions. As part of its public information and communications effort, ny4p utilizes its website, social media, periodic e-newsletter and targeted media outreach. The daffodil project and our community outreach work complement and extend ny4p's outreach and engagement with New Yorkers citywide.convenings - ny4p carries out a variety of convening activities in support of its mission. These include hosting meetings with peer organizations, larger park conservancy groups, and smaller park advocacy groups to obtain their feedback and promote opportunities to work collectively on Parks budget advocacy and open space issues. Ny4p also coordinated and hosted a set of dialogues with industry, government, and community experts on Parks and open space topics.
