See schedule o - New York Theatre balletnytb performs chamber Ballet masterpieces and commissions bold New works by emerging choreographers along with innovative 1-hour ballets for children.the mission is carried out in The work of The professional company, its associated Ballet school ny and its lift community service program. Working together these divisions reach adults and families across The country building a love for Ballet and creating audiences for The future. Founded in 1978, nytb is The most widely seen chamber Ballet company in The united states having toured from coast to coast and internationally for over 40 years. It often introduces audiences for The first time to ballets created by great masters, as well as to its wildly popular 1-hour story ballets. Nytb brings communities together with master classes, lectures, talk-backs and meet & greets. Whenever possible, local children are asked to appear with The company. Its roster includes dances by frederick ashton, agnes de mille, jose limon, antony tudor, merce cunningham, and richard alston. Its performances provide an intimate, live Ballet experience for all audiences. Legends & visionaries The nationally acclaimed legends & visionaries series features restorations and revivals of masterworks with impeccable fidelity to original movements and gestures as well as to authentic sets, costumes and props as documented by historical records. Celebrated dancers who have performed these masterworks with other companies are invited to work with The company to ensure The continuity of The ballets' integrity on nytb's stage. As a counterpoint to The performance of historically acclaimed ballets, exciting contemporary works by emerging choreographers are showcased. Whenever possible, nytb invites choreographers to create New works for The company. Audiences have The opportunity to participate in q&a's with The dancers and choreographers after The performances. The result is an illuminating understanding of how The art of Ballet is evolving. Once upon a balletnytb is committed to building an appreciation of Ballet among preschool and grade school youngsters. In addition to performing for The general public, The company reaches out to children who have limited exposure to The performing arts - and to Dance in particular - due to severe reductions in public education arts funding. Once upon a Ballet fills this serious vacuum. It is a full season of time-shortened miniatures of classic story ballets, perfectly suited for The short attention span of young viewers 3-8 years of age. Classics such as cinderella and The nutcracker capture The imaginations of youngsters for whom Ballet is a New form of story-telling. This program awakens young minds, nourishes The spirit of audiences young and old, and serves to encourage The love of Ballet among future audiences. To widen The reach of this important initiative, nytb solicits private funding to ensure attendance by children living in under-served neighborhoods.
See schedule o - lift programnytb's unique lift community services program provides tuition-free Ballet classes for at-risk and disadvantaged children, and has transformed The lives of hundreds of children. Lift students participate in classes with non-scholarship students. The classes are only a beginning. Lift gives The children sustained attention in a stable, caring environment. It increases their self-esteem and teaches them what it takes to achieve a goal using The discipline of Ballet as a tool. It leads them to discover that what really matters is focus, discipline and how hard they work, not where they come from.lift alumni include a world-class dancer who has performed around The globe, youngsters who have danced in billy elliot and south pacific on broadway, and others who have made it through high school and college and all The way to graduate school.
