Program areas at National Youngarts Foundation

Youngarts is nfaa's core program. It provides recognition and awards to young artists across the country. Nfaa is the only organization that encourages and recognizes artistic excellence in the literary, visual and performing Arts, including dance, cinematic Arts, jazz, music, photography, theater,visual Arts, voice, and creative writing. Each year, approximately 10,000 students register for the Youngarts program and approximately 437 students receive cash awards.

Each year, 20 Youngarts finalists are named presidential scholars in the Arts. At the request of the commission on presidential scholars, which is appointed by the president of the united states, the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts, through its Youngarts program, serves as the exclusive nominating agency for presidential scholars in the Arts. Participants in the Youngarts program are the only students eligible to receive the designation of presidential scholars in the Arts (psa), based on their artistic and academic achievements. Being named a presidential scholar is the highest scholastic honor available to graduating high school seniors. Each year, a group of 60 psa nominees are selected from the 170 Youngarts finalists. Youngarts "educational initiative" includes efforts expended to improve the educational impact of the Youngarts program, including conducting and/or producing educational tools, classes, and workshops used in public schools across the country at no cost to schools as well as efforts toward increasing scholarship opportunities for young artists via connecting talented young artists with colleges and conservatories seeking such talent.
