Program areas at NNPHI
Health & racial equity - nnphi has established two National communities of practice focused on Health and racial equity: one is focused on internal policies and best practices our members can implement and pursue increased equity within their organizations; the second is compiling strategies to address external drivers of racial inequities in the response to and long-term recovery from the coronavirus (covid-19). This emerging portfolio will be home to additional programs in the future.
Bridging sectors to create Health - nnphi recognizes the key to population Health improvement lies in addressing the conditions that determine Health and well-being on a broad scale. Accomplishing this means moving beyond just bridging silos between traditional Public Health partners, to engaging a broader set of partners including schools, Public safety, housing, transportation, the food industry, and others. Numerous projects focused on multi-sector collaboration are housed in this portfolio.
National coordinating center for Public Health training - this portfolio builds on nnphi's role as the National coordinating center for Public Health training (nccpht, a growing Network of univeristy-based regional Public Health training centers and other partners that provides skills-based training for the Public Health workforce in communities across the united states, puerto rico, u.s. virgin islands, and u.s. Territories. Nccpht implements the Public Health learning navigator, a training website of high-quality, engaging Public Health learning opportunities. Nccpht also implements a quality review process, the quality standards for training design and delivery. This portfolio includes additional programs related to building capacity of the Public Health workforce nationally.
Evidence to action - nnphi is committed to producing, translating, and sharing research and evaluation findings with implications for improvements in policies, practices and programs - and ultimately - population Health. This portfolio has extensive experience implementing program monitoring and evaluation systems for a wide variety of Public Health programs, across a variety of Public Health topics at the local, state, and National levels. The evidence to action team has expertise in both qualitative and quantitative methods.
Climate, crisis, and preparedness - recognizing the increasing impacts of climate change and disasters on human Health, nnphi established this portfolio to support initiatives that strengthen community preparedness and resilience throughout the united states. The portfolio is home to the hurricane response hubs, disaster mortality surveillance, project firstline, and other projects.
Network engagement - nnphi currently engages 51 member Public Health Institutes. This portfolio is responsible for nnphi's membership application process, membership benefits including technical assistance to members, updating nnphi's Network engagement directory, and leading content development for member conferences. The portfolio also provides capacity building assistance to emerging Institutes (fee for service or grant-supported) and is home to additional administrative partner services.
Communications and convening - nnphi conducts 10+ events per year designed for professionals and partner organizations dedicated to improving population Health. This portfolio offers a full suite of in-house convening services, from meeting content development to logistics planning (whether in-person or virtual). It is also home to nnphi's communications team, responsible for several websites, email newsletters, social media, and numerous reports/publications per year.
Data modernization - effective collection, management, and use of data are critical to Public Health organizations' delivery of essential services. These include monitoring disease trends, responding to Health threats, improving access to care, and guarding against misuse of Health data. Through the Public Health infrastructure grant and other initiatives, nnphi works with its member Institutes to enhance data systems used by Public Health agencies, healthcare providers, and community-based organizations to improve population Health and address inequities.
