The National convention program: this program attracts attendees from across the united states and canada for three days of skills training, professional development, and networking. The convention program also includes a career and community expo, a training program for journalism students, and the official announcement of new inductees to nlgja's lgbtq journalism hall of fame and excellence in journalism awards.

Student programs: nlgja supports several key benefits under it's student program. Student connect, which brings together up to 12 college-age students for a week-long professional training. Under this program it also offers several educational scholarships and mentoring opportunities.

In an effort to help Journalists increase awareness and to help decrease the stigma of hiv & aids, nlgja works with the centers for disease control and partners to provide training for Journalists covering hiv & aids. Additionally, resources such as fact sheets, tips and statistics are compiled to help Journalists cover these topics.
