These programs include: developing resources for public defenders and assigned counsel to use in individual cases, reforming juvenile court probation orders, and providing training and technical assistance to juvenile defenders and others on strategies to decrease the use of detention and incarceration.
Juvenile defense lead system reforms - national juvenile defender center participates in several projects aimed at improving juvenile court systems. The projects focus on: decreasing fees and costs assessed against youth and families, limiting the use of cash bail in juvenile court, increasing access to juvenile defense counsel in juvenile court, eliminating racial and ethnic disparities in juvenile court, and improving probation practices.
