Program areas at National Coalition for Safer Roads
Research/Reports - Released an interactive speed map to showcase and honor the 9,773 lives lost in speed-related crashes from 2011-2015. An average of 814 people were killed each month in speed related crashes. Speed safety cameras help to combat this dangerous and deadly act and save lives. Shared this map with various industry groups and coalitions such as Alert Today Florida, GHSA and IIHS in order for people to better understand where lives are being lost on American Roadways.
Developed Speed, Red Light, School Bus public service announcements to utilize via social media to encourage best practices in order to save lives.
NCSR is involved with GHSA and IIHS on a National Forum Movement to develop a speed management program. A few states will be selected for pilot programs to reduce speed and to save lives. Part of the pilot project will be to select communities that will use speed cameras as a way of managing speed.
Coalition Building - Developed new partnerships with like-minded organizations and survivor advocates. Worked closely with Bike/Ped Coalition to aid Bicyclists and Pedestrians as well as Families for Safe Streets. Working closely with Advocates for Auto and Highway Safety to promote safe vehicles and technologies for all road users. https://ncsrsafety.org/partners/
Stop On Red Week Campaign - Participated in annual campaign educating about the dangers of red-light running. Provided toolkits to partner organizations and developed new materials and resources for website. httpsncsrsafetyorgstoponredweek2022
National School Bus Safety Week - Participated in this annual campaign by going out to schools in the state of Florida and interviewing bus drivers to find out what is really happening on their busses and how motorists can make a difference if they pay attention while driving. Provided toolkits to schools on keeping children safe on/around busses.
