A month-long Festival in dc to celebrate the gift of Cherry trees to the us by japan drawing over a million attendees. Due to the covid-19 pandemic, ncbf was forced to shift the 2020 Festival events and programs to mostly occur virtually or otherwise in compliance with pandemic safety guidelines. While ncbf usually relies on its 1,000 plus volunteers to assist in Festival activities, volunteer needs and opportunities were reduced due to the shutdown.
Several related special program events are held leading up to and during the Festival.
A parade to celebrate the National Cherry Blossom Festival and promote japanese culture and international friendship. In 2020, due to the covid-19 pandemic and the shutdown of large-scale public events the parade was canceled in march 2020. Ncbf incurred expenses prior to the cancellation.
