Annual convention and trade show - nato holds an annual convention and trade show, cinemacon, each spring to promote upcoming film product and educate the theater Owners and operators in attendance regarding new products and services available to the industry.

Technology education - nato is committed to helping theater Owners and operators understand and/or use new and emerging technologies including digital cinema equipment; immersive audio systems; closed captioning and description for the blind; devices for the hearing/visually impaired; laser projection; and satellite delivery. Nato has worked with the movie studios and equipment manufacturers to develop technical standards.

Government and public relations - nato's network of u.s. members engages decision-makers at the federal, state and local level. Nato's government affairs staff monitors federal and state legislation and mobilizes resources to achieve favorable outcomes for members. Nato has successfully represented nato members' interests as they relate to admission taxes, beverage taxes, credit card issues, disability issues, healthcare reform, intellectual property issues and menu labeling. Nato has an active media relations program designed to communicate key industry messages.
