Program areas at Narrative Arts

Narrative Arts Center: Narrative Arts' staff work collaboratively across programs to support grassroots, foundations and communities in harnessing the power of storytelling and narrative change for equity.
Coastal Youth Media (CYM): trains youth in media arts and develops leadership and civic values. The program takes place year round in Wilmington, North Carolina, and in seven surrounding counties. CYM works collaboratively with peers and media professionals to create powerful documenrtries and new-media productions that tell the stories of our region's diverse culture. Through the process of researching and producing original media, participants create individual and group works that also allow participants to explore career and higher education interests.
Narrative Arts Performances: create, produce, and tour performance work based on the history and lives of coastal North Carolina's people and other rural communities. The progam collaborates with other artistic companies to create performances that address issues of place and culture. The program also works with communities across the county to help them explore their own cultures, stories, and community concerns. Narrative Arts staff produce original works, research methodologies, and create curriculum guides (Where I Come From, Loud As We Want, and Still Here).
