Each of these signature programs are designed to raise awareness and decrease stigma around mental illnesses. These programs also educate families and individuals about mental illness and provides peer based support. Nami Indiana also provides continuing education for professionals and resources to families through our annual conferences.
Advocacy: Nami Indiana works with leaders and decision makers to provide the voice of people living with mental illness and their families. Nami members and staff sit on committees and workgroups that help to shape the programs available to people impacted by mental illness. Because mental health impacts all parts of ones life, committee assignments include vocational rehabilition, education, suicide prevention, criminal justice, juvenile justice, provider care, and more. In addition, Nami Indiana provides training to its members and supporters on how to talk with their law makers and provide a voice from people with lived experiences.
Affiliate development: Nami Indiana provides technical assistance and training to our 16 affiliates around the state. Affiliates are groups of people in local communities who provide Nami signature programs to their neighbors and peers. Volunteers from these affiliates get trained in facilitating support groups, leading education classes, providing presentations and lived experiences to the public.
