Program areas at Mustang Heritage Foundation

The Mustang Heritage Foundation created the extreme mustang makeovers (EMM) and wild other horse events to showcase the train ability and versatility of wild horses. Experienced horse trainers pick up a wild horse, train the horse for 100 days and compete for the event incentives at an EMM event. The trained mustangs are then available for purchase or adoption through a public auction. There were 2 EMM events produced in FY 2021 that included 6 days of competition and 2 placement auctions. 99 horses were placed in to private care through these events. Without a program like EMM, older less colorful animals would be moved to long term government care costing taxpayers approximately $24,000 per animal over that animal's lifetime.
In 2015, the Americas Mustang Campaign was developed and implemented. The campaign was aimed at increasing mustang awareness throughout the United States through market, an educational website, social media presence and hands-on learning opportunities. Over 40 events have been held in 14 states including off-range pasture and corral tours, ecosanctuary tours, and equine expo appearances. In 2016, an interactive virtual reality trailer was created. The VR experience traveled the country attending various events and expos educating the general public on the current on-range and off-range wild horse and burros situation, circumstances and statistics. The America, mustang virtual reality trailer was very limited to attending events due to COVID-19.
