Program areas at Music Academy of the West
Music Academy presents an annual full-scholarship summer school and festival for 135 classically trained fellows ages 18 to 34. In 2022, for 8 intensive weeks, our fellows studied with over 50 exceptional teaching artists, performed in more than 100 concerts and masterclasses, and forged close connections with the community through our unique compeer program. Music Academy also seeks to engage diverse audiences by offering $10 community access tickets, welcoming everyone from across all generations, cultures, and backgrounds to experience the transformative power of Music. Fellows also receive entrepreneurial and leadership training opportunities as part of the summer curriculum, and wellness services as part of our "live well, perform well" philosophy.
Year-round, the Music Academy continues its commitment to unparalleled mentorship and career-advancing prospects, as well as Music education and performance. the sing! Program is a free, after-school choral program for local elementary students, which aims to inspire personal growth and expression through Music. 2022 activities included 6 elementary school sites, partnership with the young people's chorus of ny, and performances including one with the london symphony orchestra (lso). As part of the ongoing orchestra exchange partnership with the lso, the Music Academy presented 3 concerts with the lso in santa barbara, and had 3 10-day residence in london for 38 musicians to study and perform side-by-side with the lso. Innovation programs year-round included seminars and the alumni enterprise awards, substantial grants given annually for a wide range of creative projects. the Music Academy also engaged the broader community through its volunteer auxiliary, met live broadcasts, the fall mariposa concert series, and by offering its campus spaces to local Music teachers and performing arts organizations.
