Program areas at Mount Horeb Area Historical Society

The Mount Horeb Area Historical Society creates, promotes, and provides ongoing support for museum exhibits. The museum hosted approximately 3,600 visitors in 2015. New exhibits included "stories in stitches: quilts of southwestern dane county- and "ethnicity and the civil war". A new exhibit titled "natural wonders and human interaction" opened in may 2013 and replaces the current quilt exhibit. In addition, the Society operates a small gift shop. Educational programs for children are a growing service of the Society.
The Mount Horeb Area Historical Society publishes a newsletter three or four times per year. The newsletter is distributed to approximately 225 members. Additional copies of the newsletter are available to visitors to the museum, the community, and other potential members.
The Mount Horeb Area Historical Society collects and preserves local Historical artifacts and archive material, maintains a databse of items in its collections, and disseminates information to the public via assistance with research and through programs and the publishing of books and articles. The Society receives approximately five requests per week for information related to items in its archive.
