Program areas at Mind Builders Creative Arts
Dance & music program - beginner through advances level students ages 3 to adult study modern/jazz, tap, ballet, hip-hop, african dance forms and musical theater training in addition to private or group lessons in various instruments for children, teens and adults. They come to mind-builders from the surrounding neighborhood and borough, and in some instances from boroughs of new york city or the broader metropolitan area. More than 700 students attended over 190 classes weekly in addition to performances and educational presentations for an audiance of more than 2000 members and school groups.
Positive youth troupe (teen and adult theater)- pyt's staying power is its ability to 'keep it realx and deliver a positive message to youth, ages 14-21+ through Creative spirit, attitude, energy, and movement. In pyt, young people get their start on the stage while acquiring life skills. This free program begins annually in november. Applications are due in september with rolling application review. Stipends are provided.
Universal pre-kindergarden program - under contract with the nyc department of education, mind-builders offers free full-day pre-k to 18 children monday-friday. This program is free. Applications are due annually through the nyc department of education.
Folk culture and visual Arts program - train young people to identify, document and present the tradition and folk artists and african Arts discovered in their familites, community, the borough and the city. Martial Arts - weekly karate classes in goju ryu karate are offered for students ages 5-18.
