Program areas at Midwest Veterans' Biomedical Research Foundation

Supported clinical research studies that improve treatment andcure of health problems prevalent among veteran patients and therelevant general population. Special emphasis is placed onprojects that develop new technology, drug therapies andrehabilitation for the aging population. Support is also providedfor basic science research projects designed to acquire newknowledge leading to improvements in the prevention, diagnosis andtreatment of diseases and disabilities.

Supported education and training related activities for the benefit of veterans, their families, staff and the community at large. Included in the programs is a DHHS funded project with involves teaching caregivers of Veterans and VA employees in compassionate care of Veterans with dementia. The Foundation supported three Life Sciences Research Seminars entitled: "CLCF1-A New Cytokine and the Growing Number of its Targets; "Survival of the fittest: Stories of leishmania infection; "Quiescent pluripotent stem cells reside in peripheral nerves and can differentiate into cells of all 3 germ layers: Implications for the mechanism of normal healing, the pathophysiology of Charcot arthropathies , and an opportunity for application in self-to-self stem cell therapies."
