Program areas at CHS
SHELTERS: Midcoast Humane operates two shelters, one in Edgecomb and one in Brunswick Maine. The animal population in these shelters varies widely. On December 31, 2022, MH housed 321 animals. During 2022, Midcoast Humane cared for 2,839 dogs, cats and small animals. We had 2,387 adoptions and returned 302 missing animals to their homes. Midcoast Humane contracts with 39 municipalities, providing support with strays, surrenders and seizures. Midcoast Humane operates a transport program and transported 426 cats and 526 dogs from high kill shelters to Midcoast Maine to find their forever homes.
COMMUNITY OUTREACH: Our Community Outreach programs provides services to promote animal retention. A big part of our mission includes helping community members care for their animals in their homes. In 2022, Midcoast Humane paid $12,062.41 in public assistance and $8,374.26 for low cost spay/neiter vouchers redeemed at local veterinary offices. We have an animal trainer on staff who holds low cost classes and will assist owners with specific behavioral issues.
THRIFT STORE: Midcoast Humane operates a Thrift Store in Boothbay Harbor. All merchandise sold by the thrift store is donated to us by community members and all proceeds go directly to supporting our mission.
